All products influence the environment in different ways. Certain products
influence the environment most in the making process. Lighting, however,
influences the environment mostly in use.
Save
energy!
Lighting products consume energy, and as you may be well
aware of, the production of energy is often connected to large environmental
problems. The greatest contribution to the protection of the environment is
therefore to choose products that consume as little energy as possible. Compared
to lighting installations from the 70ies or 80ies, today's technique allows us
to minimise the energy consumption with more than 50%.
Choose the
right light source!
To save energy we ought to choose light sources
that distribute much more light in ratio to the energy consumption. Examples are
compact fluorescent and fluorescent light sources. Halogen lamps and ordinary
light bulbs are examples of less effective light sources. These light bulbs have
a short life cycle and contribute so much heat that there is a risk that the
office ventilation system has to consume more energy to reduce the heat.
Therefore, in large, choose lighting with fluorescent light
sources!
Employ High frequency operation
Today's
lighting is mostly equipped with high frequency ballasts (HF). This is a
technique, which consumes less energy, extends the life cycle of the light
source and enables light control (dimming). HF light sources are also entirely
flickering free. The latest research points out flicker from light sources and
screens as the most probable source of over-sensitivity to electricity.
Therefore, choose lighting equipped with HF ballast in the outer as well as the
inner environment.
Switch off the light!
Previously
we were often recommended to leave the light on the whole day, as the light
sources and ignitors were prematurely worn out if they were frequently ignited
and switched off. With today's technique we do not have to take this into
consideration. If you intend to be out of the room for more than 15 minutes, we
recommend that you switch off the light. You can even install a movement sensor
in the room, which switches off the light automatically within a certain period
of time. Imagine how many offices that are unnecessary illuminated every
day!
Choose quality!
Choose products that can stand
the time. By choosing a lighting solution of high quality and with good
function, you do not have to change in years. Be particular about choosing a
flexible solution that can adapt to changes of furniture and/or personnel at the
workplace.
